Teachers Teaching Teachers... 👩‍🏫 👩🏽‍🏫 👨🏽‍🏫

January 12, 2021

The best professional development experience of my teaching career was participating in the National Writing Project while a graduate student at the University of New Mexico. For three weeks I worked closely with classroom teachers and fellow graduate students as we sought to improve each other's writing. What made the experience so valuable was that it was teachers teaching and learning from other teachers. Not outside experts; not those who know little about the complexities of teaching in a K-12 environment.

403bwise Advocacy Project

Through our advocacy network, we are trying to replicate the core principle of the National Writing Project: Teachers teaching teachers. We are beginning to see some fantastic results. This Wednesday from 4-5:15pm PAC/7-8:15 EST, three classroom teachers will share how they teach colleagues about saving for retirement.

  1. Danielle — New Jersey elementary school teacher
  2. Barb — Virginia high school teacher
  3. Chris — New Jersey high school teacher

Each of these teachers has been interviewed on our Teach and Retire Rich podast. You can access their individual episodes below. Information on attending Wednesday's event can be found here

Advocacy Movement

Last summer we convened our first ever 403bwise Advocacy Summit. Teachers from across the country came together to share ideas on how to educate colleagues, and how add better 403(b) and 457(b) vendors. As a culminating project we collaborated on the creation of a downloadable and editable slide deck that can be used to educate colleagues about saving for retirement: Get Wise to Saving for Retirement. We have a list of advocacy tools and resources that can be accessed here

On the masthead of our home page it reads: The K-12 403(b) is broken. Together we can fix it. Thanks to teachers, we are making progress.

Stay wise and well.
