Happy 4.03(b) Day

April 3, 2023

Happy 4.03(b) Day! I hope it is a good one. If you have a bad plan, I hope you make progress today on getting a better one. If you have a good one, I hope you share the importance of starting a 403(b) with your colleagues who aren’t currently contributing.

I will spend part of today presenting to teachers in Palm Beach County, Florida. I plan to share information about the 403(b), 457(b), the impact of fees, and how to get out of a bad 403(b) among other topics.

More Aarons Please

I wish every school district cared as much about employee retirement plan education as this one. A big reason for this is Aaron Standish, Financial Literacy Program Planner for Palm County. While his main job is facilitating the infusion of personal finance topics in district curriculum, he has taken it upon himself to make sure it’s not just students who are financially savvy. He puts on about half a dozen workshops a year for his colleagues. We are only too happy to participate. See below our podcast with Aaron and one with a principal in his district who hosted at his Palm County middle school.

So Down with the SEC

I will be joined today by another person I greatly admire: Jill Persson of the SEC. Jill and her team in the San Francisco office have been huge allies in the effort to fix the broken K-12 403(b) plan. We greatly enjoy collaborating with them on this issue.

While 4.03(b) Day comes around only once a year, we at 403bwise.org hope your 403(b) is so good that every day feels like 4.03(b) Day.

Stay wise and well (and make every day 4.03(b) Day)
