Great 8 ? + Big Fat F

March 29, 2022

On a recent Teach and Retire Rich podcast we lauded the 27 school districts who have earned an A for their 403(b) plans in our District 403(b) Rating Project. To date we have graded approximately 22% of the nation's school district 403(b) plans. Less than 1 percent of those rated have earned an A. Remarkably, eight of the 27 come from Indiana. We highlight them below. Unfortunately, we had to move an Indiana district from a D to F.

Indiana Great 8

  1. Clinton Prairie School Corporation
  2. Crown Point Community School Corp
  3. Middlebury Community Schools
  4. School City of Hobart
  5. South Montgomery Com Sch Corp
  6. Tippecanoe School Corp
  7. Tri-County School Corporation
  8. Western School Corporation

Big FAT F

South Gibson offers Security Benefit. We are no fans of Sercurity Benefit, but they do make available a product called NEA Direct Invest. It's one of the low-cost options offered by high-cost companies that we highlight in the story When Bad 403(b) Vendors Offer Good Investing Choices. If Security Benefit is available, employees should have access to the NEA Direct Invest product. Unfortunately, too many school districts are blocking access. We just got word that South Gibson Corporation in Indiana blocks access. This took their terrible plan from a D to an F

If Your District Blocks NEA Direct Invest

We have created this resource: I Want My NEA Direct Invest

Stay wise and well (and note to school districts like South Gibson School Corporation: Stop making it hard for your employees to save for retirement).
