Four Who Have Retired πŸ‘¨β€πŸ¦³πŸ‘©πŸΎπŸ‘±πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘©πŸΌπŸΉ

April 13, 2021

I launched 403bwise in 2000 when I was 35 years old. My focus then — in addition to 403(b) education and advocacy —  was accumulating retirement savings. I obsessed over saving as much as possible, as cheaply as possible. I loved reading about how people were saving for retirement. What low-cost funds were they using? How were they allocating their investments? The idea of retirement seemed distant.

Now in my mid-50s, retirement doesn’t seem so distant. Not that I plan to retire from 403(b) advocacy anytime soon (if ever), tapping my retirement savings actually seems like something that will happen. It kind of reminds me of my freshman year in high school. I knew I would eventually be a senior but that seemed so distant from the perspective of wide eyed first-year high school student.

As the hair grays I find myself increasingly interested in learning from people who have retired. What did they get right about saving? What did they get wrong about saving? How do they access various retirement plans? What is it actually like to live in retirement? This Thursday you (and I) will get a chance to learn from four who have actually retired. I hope you can join us.
