Latest CalSTRS Membership and Retirement Stats
March 1, 2026
I always enjoy seeing the latest CalSTRS membership data. I'm particularly interested in the number of educators who retired and what their monthly average annual Member-Only Benfit is. The following data comes from the latest CalSTRS Retired Educator (Winter 2026).
Retirement Information

Can a retired educator live on $68,000 per year? I think it would be tough in California. This just points out again the importance of access to a low-cost 403(b) and/or 457(b) plan. Unfortunately, California suffers from some of the largest vendor lists in the country. While most districts offer the low-cost CalSTRS Pension 2 403(b), few districts educate employees about the impact of fees.
Stay wise and well and let's make saving for retirement easier for educators.
