Contrast in Caring About Educators

March 5, 2024

Last week Scott and I had a chance to interact with two individuals who have an oversized influence on the financial well-being of teachers: A Superintendent and another individual in a leadership position. The meetings occurred one day apart. Their care for educators was as different as the states they live and work in.

Super Superintendent

This leader was focused on one goal: Giving employees the best 403(b) and 457(b) possible. This individual was curious, engaged, enthusiastic, and couldn’t wait to meet with Scott and me again. We can’t wait either.

Industry Lackey?

This "leader" seemed to be working for the best interests of the financial services industry. It was galling. Instead of working to better retirement options for educators, this individual was putting up roadblock after roadblock. Frankly, it sounded like this "leader" was working from the financial services script.

I will keep these individual names and positions anonymous. For now.

Stay wise and well (Let's root on leaders who work in the best interests of educators and root out those who don't).
